Services For
Physicians
At MARS, we can help physicians more
effectively identify and treat patients with memory problems.
Since 1996 five
new drugs have been approved by the FDA for the treatment of Alzheimer’s
disease and other dementias. Although none of these drugs can stop or
reverse the course of Alzheimer's Disease, research shows that the earlier
patients with Alzheimer's Disease begin taking these medications, the longer
they preserve their mental abilities.
Unfortunately, the US Surgeon
General’s finds that only 3% of those with mild to moderate memory
impairment and less than 25% of those with severe memory impairment will be
detected by their physicians (Report to the Surgeon General, 1999). This low
detection rate is alarming, but understandable. The detection of small,
abnormal memory changes takes both time and specialized training.
At MARS, we can help physicians more
effectively identify and treat patients with memory problems by:
-
providing detailed and
customized reports on the cognitive functioning of patients who suspect
memory problems.
-
providing detailed and customized
reports on the cognitive functioning of patients who have significant risk
factors for developing dementia.
-
tracking memory functions
for patients already diagnosed with dementia who are undergoing treatment,
or plan to undergo treatment.
At MARS, we make physician referrals
easy. In addition, we reserve times each week for physician referrals. |
