Developing Cognitive Assessments

MARS is committed to developing early memory impairment diagnosis products, and other cognitive assessments, that outperform those that are currently available.

At MARS, we are committed to increasing the sensitivity of existing tests and the development of new, more sensitive tests. The early detection of memory loss and other declines in cognitive abilities is critical for the effective treatment of any related diseases. MARS uses the gold-standard assessments for the detection of dementia.  Nevertheless, the sensitivity of those tests could be improved.

In addition to developing tests to assess early dementia, researchers at MARS can develop cognitive assessments that are tailored for specific drug effects.  Often, drugs are developed that specifically target different brain areas or neurological diseases.  A generalized assessment may not be the best method for detecting the specific effects of a drug.  Indeed, a test tailored to the predicted effects will likely be more sensitive to those effects.

Below are just a few of the areas that researchers at MARS have expertise:

  • Memory

  • Attention

  • Visual and auditory perception

  • Imagery

  • General and numerical cognition

  • Executive functions

  • Clinical assessment

  • Test development and construction

  • Signal detection

  • Neurological functioning
